Head Start East


Takiema Bunch Smith will be Co-presenting with Ella Williams of Chill and Bliss at the 2026 Head Start East Conference in Puerto Rico.

This course examines the theory and application of culturally responsive coaching with adult learners, whether working in school settings or it context of higher education. Grounded in critical pedagogy and adult learning theory, the course prepares educators, coaches, and organizational leaders to engage diverse adult learners through equitable, inclusive, and culturally sustaining coaching practices. Participants will explore the intersections of identity, culture, and power in learning environments and develop the competencies necessary to support transformative learning experiences. Emphasis is placed on reflective practice, intercultural communication, and the design of coaching strategies that acknowledge and leverage learners’ cultural assets. Through case studies, and research analysis, participants will learn to cultivate culturally responsive coaching relationships that foster learner agency, motivation, and long-term success.
